MoistureProblem
Unchecked moisture can lead to structural damage, poor air quality, and expensive repairs.

- Wet or damp crawl space surfaces
- Condensation on pipes or ductwork
- Wood rot or rusty metal components
Moisture Doesn’t Stay Below.
It Rises. It Spreads. It Damages.
Why It Matters
Crawl Space Humidity Can Affect Your Whole Home
Moisture below your home rarely stays below your home. As humidity rises in an unsealed or poorly ventilated crawl space, it can feed mold and mildew, create persistent musty odors, and degrade indoor air quality on the floors above.
Over time, that same moisture can saturate insulation so it sags and loses its R-value, force your HVAC system to work harder against damp air, and contribute to wood rot and long-term structural issues in framing and subflooring. Controlling crawl space humidity at the source is one of the most effective ways to protect the whole home — and a dedicated, crawl-space-rated dehumidifier is built to do exactly that.
- Poor Air Quality Moist, stale air rises into your living space.
- Musty Odors Persistent odors spread throughout your home.
- Wood Rot & Damage Excess moisture weakens wood, leading to rot and costly repairs.
- Wet Insulation Saturated insulation sags, losing R-value and increasing energy bills.
- High Humidity Moisture builds up in the crawl space from soil, leaks, and poor ventilation.
The Hidden Impact of Crawl Space Moisture
-
Mold Growth Encourages mold, mildew, and bacteria.
-
Poor Health Can trigger allergies, asthma, and respiratory issues.
-
Higher Bills Makes your HVAC work harder and increases energy costs.
-
Structural Risk Leads to wood rot, corrosion, and costly repairs.
-
Lower Home Value Moisture problems can reduce comfort and property value.

Crawl Space Dehumidifier FAQs
Answers to common questions about crawl space humidity, sizing, coverage, drainage, and the AprilAire E070.
What humidity should a crawl space be?
For most crawl spaces, the goal is to keep relative humidity around 50% to 60%. When humidity stays above that range for long periods, the risk of mold, mildew, musty odors, wood rot, and insulation damage increases. A crawl-space dehumidifier like the AprilAire E070 helps control humidity at the source instead of only treating the air inside the home.
What size area can the AprilAire E070 cover?
The AprilAire E070 is rated for sealed crawl spaces up to approximately 2,200 sq ft, depending on sealing, moisture load, air leakage, drainage conditions, and climate. Its 70-pints-per-day capacity (at 80°F / 60% RH) makes it a strong fit for professionally sealed and encapsulated crawl spaces, as well as basements needing dependable moisture control.
How much moisture does the E070 remove?
The AprilAire E070 removes up to 70 pints of moisture per day at 80°F and 60% RH (about 53 pints per day at 73°F and 60% RH). It samples the air and runs only when dehumidification is needed, and an optional air-cycling mode can run the fan 0–60 minutes per hour to help equalize humidity and temperature throughout the space.
Can the AprilAire E070 be used in an encapsulated crawl space?
Yes. The E070 is designed for stand-alone operation without HVAC ducting and is a strong fit for professional crawl space encapsulation systems. Its compact 12.5" x 12.5" x 25" cabinet fits tight access areas, and encapsulation helps reduce outside moisture entry while the dehumidifier maintains a stable humidity level inside the space.
Can this dehumidifier run continuously and where does the water drain?
Yes. The E070 is built for continuous drainage and long-term operation. It includes a 10 ft drain tube and a 3/4" threaded (MNPT) drain connection, and a patented backflow drain insert means no P-trap is required. Water can drain to a sump basin, condensate pump, floor drain, or approved drainage point so it flows away reliably.
Does the E070 improve air quality and help with mold and odors?
The E070 uses a washable MERV 8 filter (upgradeable to MERV 11) that helps capture dust and airborne particles, and by lowering humidity it helps make the space less favorable for future mold, mildew, and musty-odor problems. A dehumidifier does not remove existing mold by itself — any existing mold or water intrusion should be addressed separately.
Is the E070 quiet and how is it powered?
The AprilAire E070 operates at about 53 dBA when ducted and draws less than 3 watts in idle mode. It plugs into a standard 120 VAC outlet using its 8 ft power cord (5.4 amps in operation), so no special electrical hookup is required for most installations.
Is this better than a portable dehumidifier?
For crawl spaces and basements, yes. A standard portable dehumidifier is usually designed for occasional indoor room use, not long-term operation in tight, damp spaces. The E070 is built for these environments, with 70 pints/day capacity, continuous drainage, corrosion-resistant aluminum coils, a sealed R32 refrigeration system, and washable MERV 8 filtration for demanding moisture-control jobs.
